Pension Service

Česká pošta, s.p. (ČP) makes cash pension payments pursuant to the Mandate Agreement on the Provision of Pension Services concluded with the Czech Social Security Administration (ČSSZ). ČP merely acts as an intermediary in the payment of pension benefits on behalf of ČSSZ. ČP ensures the cash payment of pensions through “Pensions – Payment Slip” documents based on instructions provided by the pension payer, i.e., ČSSZ.

Pension Payment Date/Payday

The Czech Social Security Administration (ČSSZ) sets the payment dates for cash pensions between the 2nd and 14th of the month, always on even-numbered days;

  • If the pension payment date falls on a Saturday, the payment date is the preceding business day;
    if the pension payment date falls on a non-working day or a day of rest (Sunday, public holiday), the payment date is the following business day.

Other changes to the payday are made by the Czech Post exclusively at the request of the Czech Social Security Administration. Only the Czech Social Security Administration informs the public of such changes via a press release on its website.

General Rules for Verifying Identity

To verify their identity and prove their eligibility to receive a pension, the recipient must present:

  • Czech citizen – a valid ID card or passport issued in the Czech Republic.
  • Foreign nationals – a valid foreigner’s residence permit containing a photograph and an assigned birth number, or a foreign identity document containing a photograph along with a domestic document containing a birth number (e.g., a certificate of temporary residence for an EU citizen, a birth number certificate, or a health insurance card).
  • Citizen of the Slovak Republic born before 1993 – a valid Slovak identity document with a photograph and birth number.

Only the documents listed above are accepted for pension services.

Payment Methods

The first pension payment is always delivered to the recipient’s place of residence on the payment date and is paid only to the recipient in person. If the pension cannot be paid at the place of residence on that date, it is held at the designated holding post office, where it can be picked up later. ČP does not leave a notice of deposit in the mailbox.

Delivered pension – the pension is delivered to the recipient by a postal carrier to the address listed on the payment slip. If the recipient is not present, the pension is deposited at the relevant holding post office.

Pick-up pension – the pension recipient picks up the pension at a post office counter (including Pošta Partner) of their own choosing.

Changes to the payment method

A pension recipient can request the following changes at any post office (including Pošta Partner):

  • a change in the method of payment (delivery or pickup),
  • a change in permanent residence address,
  • redirection of the pension to a temporary residence address,
  • exclusion of one spouse from receiving the pension.

To make the change, the pension recipient must present a valid ID and a pay stub from one of the previous pay periods.

Payment of a pension to a person other than the pensioner

Another person may be:

  • a legal guardian – must be identified on the “Pensions – Payment Statement” document,
  • a custodian – must be identified on the “Pensions – Payment Statement” document,
  • a household member representing the pensioner pursuant to Sections 49 and 50 of the Civil Code – must be indicated on the “Pensions – Payment Slip” document.
  • special recipient (designated by a decision of the municipal office) – must be indicated on the “Pensions – Payment Slip” document,
  • spouse of the pensioner (unless the pensioner has previously excluded their spouse in writing from receiving the pension).

Payment of a pension to a person other than the pension recipient listed in the “Pensioner” field on the payment slip is possible only if certain conditions related to the above-mentioned cases are met.

The period for collecting your pension

ČP will pay the pension for a maximum of three consecutive payment periods (payment months). If the pension remains unclaimed after three consecutive payment months, this fact is reported to the Czech Social Security Administration (ČSSZ), which will send the pensioner a Notice of Suspension of Pension Payments. The ČSSZ will resume payments upon receipt of a written request from the pensioner. The written request to resume payments must be sent to the following address: ČSSZ, Křížová 25, 225 08 Prague 5. After processing the request, the pensioner will receive a Notice of Resumption of Pension Payments.

Information on the processing of personal data is available on the Czech Social Security Administration (ČSSZ) website, as the controller of personal data for pension recipients:
