Environmental responsibility
EN Environmental responsibility
As part of sustainable business, we also see our responsibility towards the environment as one of our priorities. We actively strive to save energy, reduce our carbon footprint, and develop electromobility. In the coming years, we will continue to focus on reducing the amount of waste we produce and sorting it more thoroughly.

What is our carbon footprint?
Greenhouse gas emissions were calculated in accordance with the GHG Protocol, a globally recognized standard developed jointly by the World Resources Institute and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development. The GHG Protocol provides comprehensive, standardized frameworks for quantifying and managing greenhouse gas emissions within private and public sector activities, value chains, and mitigation efforts.

| Total emissions | 152,858 | 7.75 |
* A market-based method was used to calculate Scope 2 emissions.
In 2024, emissions associated with the operation of buildings, both owned and leased, remained the main source of emissions. The operation of owned buildings (Scope 1 and 2) accounted for approximately 51% of total emissions, with emissions associated with the purchase of electricity in Scope 2 accounting for approximately 24% of total emissions. If emissions associated with the operation of buildings from Scope 3 were also included, the share would rise to 67% of total emissions.
The second most significant source of emissions is the company's vehicle fleet. In total, owned and leased vehicles accounted for 12% of emissions, with leased vehicles accounting for 6% of total emissions.
Compared to the previous year, there was a reduction in emission intensity in all three Scopes, which was mainly due to the optimization of real estate use.

Our energy management
Since 2018, Česká pošta has had an established and certified "Energy Management System" in accordance with the ČSN EN ISO 50001:2019 standard. In 2024, the company underwent a recertification audit (hereinafter referred to as "RCA") of its certified Energy Management System according to ISO 50001 (hereinafter referred to as "EnMS"), which was performed by CQS. The RCA was performed in accordance with the ČSN EN ISO 50001:2019 standard. Furthermore, in 2024, the audit, risk management, and control department performed an internal EnMS audit in accordance with ČP's internal guidelines.
Our energy management rules:
- manage energy so that there are no unnecessary losses
- monitor energy consumption and identify the causes of undesirable consumption
- maintain our consumption equipment in a condition that complies with legal regulations and technical standards
- consume energy only on the basis of contracts concluded for the actual needs of our facilities
- use and implement new technologies that are more environmentally friendly and consume less energy

How do we handle waste?
As part of its environmental protection efforts, Česká pošta, s.p. strives to manage waste as economically as possible. For 2025, Česká pošta has concluded waste management service agreements for all seven regions. Framework agreements (26) have also been concluded for 2023–2025 for the provision of services for the collection and disposal of hazardous and other waste from selected facilities where this hazardous waste is generated, primarily transport centers, the Central Printing House in Prague, DSPU, DEP, etc. In order to comply with the reporting obligation for 2024 by February 28, 2025, 2,034 reports on waste production and management were submitted through the Integrated System for the Fulfilment of Reporting Obligations in the Environmental Sector, thereby fulfilling the legal obligation.

** Disposal of hazardous waste
The overall increase in waste disposal costs was mainly due to an increase in the statutory fee for the disposal of mixed municipal waste at landfills and the impact of a newly tendered public contract. The increase in the cost of hazardous waste disposal was mainly due to the disposal of expired COVID equipment and the costs associated with the closure of facilities that produced hazardous waste, particularly transport centers.
