Czech Post also facilitates services provided by its alliance partners, who offer express money transfers abroad and the disbursement of funds received from abroad or within the Czech Republic. Specifically, these include: WESTERN UNION®.
WESTERN UNION®
We offer the WESTERN UNION® express money transfer service at more than 887 select post offices.
Western Union (hereinafter “WU”) provides services for sending money abroad and receiving money from abroad. These transfers can also be made within the Czech Republic.
The WU service is available to its clients at 550,000 locations in more than 195 countries worldwide.
Money transfers between WU locations handling receipts and disbursements are completed within a few minutes. The WU service offers both free and paid services. Western Union reserves the right to set the maximum transfer amount.
This service has been provided by Česká pošta, s.p. since July 1, 2002, based on an Agency Agreement with PES – Peněžní expresní service, s.r.o. (hereinafter referred to as the PES headquarters), which is a Western Union agent in the Czech Republic.
The sender or recipient of a transfer may be an adult individual, a citizen of the Czech Republic, or a foreign national. The recipient may request payment of the transferred amount at any location providing the WU service in the given country.
The receipt and disbursement of remitted amounts at post offices are conducted in cash and in Czech currency. The amount sent must end in whole crowns. The WU exchange rate is used for conversion to foreign currencies; the amount is calculated automatically after conversion using the exchange rate valid at the time the payment is submitted in the online transaction. In the event of a failure in online communication between the post office and the PES headquarters, the service cannot be provided at the post office. In WU terminology, the term “transfer” is used for money transfers.
At the point of delivery, payment is usually made in the local currency, or alternatively in USD or another currency. A single universal form is used as both the deposit and payment receipt, where the sender or recipient fills out the relevant section designated either for sending or receiving money.
The universal form is printed in both Czech and English. In the event of loss or theft of an ID card, the sender may use the free “Security Question and Answer” service, which is available only in certain countries. The “Security Question and Answer” is mandatory when sending to selected African countries.
To send a payment, the sender must know the following information:
- recipient's name,
- destination—country of delivery (for the U.S. and Mexico, also city and state).
To receive the transferred amount, the recipient must provide the following information:
- sender's name,
- expected amount,
- country of origin,
- Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN).
The recipient is required to present a valid ID and provide a contact phone number (mobile or landline, including the country code), which is mandatory.
