the eastern side of Konopiště chateau, set within beautiful natural surroundings. The architecture of the chateau is the result of renovations carried out by Ferdinand d’Este at the end of the 19th century in a historicist style, under the direction of architect Josef Mocker. The first day cover shows the eastern gate, built in 1725 to a design by František Maxmilián Kaňka and adorned with statues of Mars and Bellona by Matyáš Braun.

The coupons depict:

  1. a portrait of František Ferdinand d’Este, who purchased Konopiště from the Lobkowicz family in 1887. The new owner rebuilt the chateau in its present form, modernised the interiors, and introduced electricity and plumbing. He also established the chateau gardens and carried out landscaping of the park.
  2. Ferdinand d’Este’s extensive trophy collection; he was a passionate hunter. The chateau now houses 4,055 hunting trophies.

The front of the booklet depicts the château Konopiště, while the back shows a fallow deer.
