Tradition of Czech stamp design: Bohumil Heinz

The portrait of Bohumil Heinz is complemented by a detail from his work Cyril and Methodius. Bohumil Heinz was a Czech graphic artist and engraver who made a significant contribution to the artistic and technical quality of steel-engraved postage stamps. From the 1930s onwards, he designed and engraved dozens of Czechoslovakian postage stamps. His engraving art was recognized not only in his homeland, but also abroad. During his lifetime, he created remarkable works that were appreciated by experts and the public alike.

The motifs are made unique by the contrast between the engraver's portrait, created using watercolor techniques, and the detail of the engraving. The enlargement highlights Heinz's perfect engraving work. The stamp is printed using offset printing and issued in the form of a printing sheet and a stamp booklet with 8 stamps and 2 x 2 different coupons. The print run is 72,000 stamps, which means 9,000 printing sheets for the booklets. The denomination is represented by the letter "B", which corresponds to the price for domestic standard letter mail – standard up to 50 g in economy mode according to the current price list of basic postal services – CZK 27 on the date of issue.
