The European Commission has approved compensation for Czech Post for services provided to the state
Česká pošta provides services prescribed by its postal license. The European Commission has now approved the legitimacy of compensation in the amount of three billion crowns, which Česká pošta will receive from the state for providing key services in 2023 and 2024. This decision confirms that the compensation awarded meets all the parameters set by legislation.
As a postal license holder, Česká pošta fulfills its obligations to the state, which include operating an extensive network of branches throughout the Czech Republic and ensuring the delivery of letters to every address every day. Thanks to financial compensation for services rendered and the European Union's regulatory framework, this model can function stably and effectively and be a solid and reliable pillar in the ongoing transformation of public services.
"The European Commission's approval of compensation for 2023 and 2024 is a welcome milestone for us. Based on this decision, we expect to receive CZK 2.25 billion in the coming days, with the remaining CZK 750 million for 2024 to be paid by the end of this year. We have fulfilled all the conditions for the granting of this amount, which will enable us to repay the credit lines financing the basic services provided under the postal license," said Milan Hladík, Chief Financial Officer of Česká pošta.
The European Commission's opinion helps to ensure the long-term sustainability of the established system, allowing Česká pošta to focus on modernizing its services and improving the availability of postal services for citizens and businesses across the country.
