Opera singer Soňa Červená on a postage stamp

On Wednesday, September 3, Czech Post will release a new commemorative stamp from the Personalities series, featuring Soňa Červená.

The theme of the stamp is a portrait of opera singer Soňa Červená and a red rose. The actress's portrait is from the period of her return from exile to Prague after 1989. The rose commemorates her lifelong role as Carmen, which she sang more than 150 times on all the world's leading opera stages. Soňa Červená, daughter of the famous cabaret artist Jiří Červený, began her singing career with the role of Káča in The Miraculous Pot at the Liberated Theater of J. Voskovec and J. Werich in Prague. She took up her first opera engagement at the Brno Opera. After emigrating from Berlin to the West in 1958, she performed at all the famous opera houses in Europe and America, where, among other things, she introduced the work of Leoš Janáček.

The stamp was designed by Eva Hašková. It has a face value of CZK 31 and will be issued in a print run of 200,000 copies. It will be available from the Czech Post e-shop and at selected branches.
