In April, postal workers will pay out 210,000 pensions in cash 10 days earlier than usual.
The Czech Social Security Administration uses the services of the Czech Post to send pensions in cash. The Czech Post is ready to face a new challenge. Starting in April, 210,000 pensioners who currently receive their pensions in the second half of the month will receive their pensions in cash 10 days earlier. This change was preceded by negotiations and a joint agreement between the Czech Social Security Administration and the Czech Post. Everything is now ready for all clients to receive their pensions during the first half of the month starting in April.
In the first half of the month, Czech Post will pay out a total of 507,000 pensions. In the same period last year, it paid out 297,000 pensions. Czech Post clients receive their pensions through the so-called pension service. This means that on the payment date, their pension is ready for collection at the relevant Czech Post branch, or a Czech Post employee will come to their home to pay them their pension. If they are not at home, the pension will be left at the relevant Czech Post branch.
"I greatly appreciate the cooperation with Česká pošta. Thanks to their helpful approach, even clients to whom we pay pensions in cash can receive their pensions earlier. Our goal of ensuring that all clients receive their pensions in the first half of the month can thus be fulfilled from April," said František Boháček, Director General of the Czech Social Security Administration (ČSSZ).
"We understand the CSSA's decision to pay pensions to all pensioners by the middle of the month at the latest. This is a challenge for us because we will have much less time to pay pensions. However, we are already prepared for this situation – we have ensured sufficient capacity, strengthened security measures, and set up the appropriate processes at all branches. We are ready to face this challenge and overcome it," added Miroslav Štěpán, CEO of Česká pošta.
Can clients receive their pensions on odd days?
Pension payment dates will continue to be on even days, but from April onwards they will be concentrated in the first half of the month, i.e. the 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 10th, 12th, and 14th.
Czech Post employees will always deliver pensions on the pension payment date. On this date, pensions will also be available at Czech Post branches for clients who collect them there. Only if the payment date falls on a public holiday or weekend will the pension be paid before or after this payment date (e.g., the payment date of April 12 this year falls on a Saturday, so the pension will be delivered to your home or ready at the post office on Friday, April 11). This means that clients can also receive their pension on an odd day.
This situation also occurs with cashless payments. Banking services are often faster than before, so pensions sent to current accounts may arrive a day earlier. Nevertheless, the payment date remains an even day.
Sending letters to clients
All CSSA clients affected by this change will receive a letter with specific information by post to their address or to their personal data box (if they have one). All clients will thus be informed in good time and in advance.
The change in the payment date will not result in any overpayment or underpayment, and therefore no one's pension will be reduced or increased. The amount of all pensions will remain the same. No one's pension will be reduced.
This change will not affect pensions paid by the Czech Social Security Administration (ČSSZ) to clients abroad.
The reduction in maturity dates is being implemented by the ČSSZ in accordance with Act No. 321/2023 Coll.
