Czech floorball has its first postage stamp! It was created to mark the Women's World Championship.
Czech floorball is celebrating a significant milestone. For the first time in history, the Czech Post is issuing a postage stamp dedicated to floorball. It was created on the occasion of the 2025 Women's Floorball World Championship and confirms the importance of the championship, which will take place in Brno and Ostrava from December 6 to 14.
The author of the artistic design is designer Alan Záruba, who used a modern approach and elements of the championship's visual identity for the graphic design. The dominant feature of the stamp is an imaginary figure of a floorball player, created with the support of artificial intelligence tools. The monochrome composition, transitioning from red to yellow, symbolizes the dynamism, energy, and emotion of women's floorball. In the background, there is a subtle grid of red dots and an ECG line motif in the heart area, representing passion, tension, and the desire to win.
The entire composition of the design is based on components from the graphic manual for the Women's Floorball World Championship. "By using the structural elements of the championship's unified visual style on the stamp, its design will be a natural part of the World Championship marketing campaign, which was the purpose of the entire project from the outset. The figure of the floorball player on the stamp, which was inspired by the real national team player Anna Brucháčková, is certainly noteworthy, but its final form is the result of creative iteration using AI technology," describes graphic designer Alan Záruba.
An original photograph of Anna Brucháčková served as inspiration for the process of identifying the face of the floorball player on the stamp using AI tools and subsequently inserted modules for photo retouching. To visualize the heightened emotions associated with the desire to win, the typographic composition of texts from the Rift font and the MS logotype is complemented by an inserted element of an ECG recording line, which is located in the heart of the floorball player. The FDC features the typographic motif of the main MS slogan, No Power like Women Power. “I really enjoyed the whole project and I am glad that the World Championship stamp will be issued and that floorball fans throughout the Czech Republic will be able to use it to mark their letters,” adds Záruba.
The stamp bears the letter "E," which corresponds to the price for a standard shipment to European countries. It was issued in a print run of 300,000 copies, and the accompanying first day covers (FDC) are available in two versions—with motifs of Brno and Ostrava—in a limited series of 2,000 copies. The stamps are available at selected branches and the Czech Post e-shop.
The stamp design was first presented at a nomination press conference before the start of the championship, and the official launch of the new issue will take place on November 26 at the main post office building on Jindřišská Street in Prague, where the original designs and proofs of the stamps are also on display.
"This is as extraordinary a moment for us as the launch of the first official stamp when the republic was founded in 1918. Floorball is appearing on a postage stamp for the first time, symbolically confirming our important place in sports and cultural society. The stamp is being issued on the occasion of the Women's World Championship and is great promotion for women's sports and floorball as such," says Daniel Novák, president of Czech Floorball.
"The stamp created with the help of artificial intelligence is another step forward in this traditional field. Combining this method with a dynamic sport was an obvious choice. I am glad that we can support the floorball players at their world championship with one of the jewels of philately, a classic stamp," says Martina Ivanová, Director of Retail Management and Development at Česká pošta.
The Women's Floorball World Championship will take place from December 6 to 14, 2025, in Brno and Ostrava, and thousands of fans from around the world are expected to attend. Tickets are available.
