A leap to stardom. Jiří Raška flies to philatelic pedestal

The Czech Post is presenting a commemorative postage stamp sheet dedicated to Jiří Raška. The sheet was designed by Petr Ptáček, costs CZK 76, and contains two stamps worth CZK 36 and CZK 40. The artwork and stamp will be released on February 4, which would have been the 85th birthday of the Czech skier of the century.

The sheet depicts a stylized winter landscape with ski jumps, which are linked to the sporting history of Jiří Raška. He was a legendary ski jumper who ended the wait for a gold medal for Czechoslovak athletes at the Winter Olympics in Grenoble in 1968. Raška began ski jumping in his native Frenštát pod Radhoštěm. He made it onto the national team in 1958 and remained there for 16 long years.

The sheet has a print run of 25,000 copies and will be available from February 4 at selected branches and the Czech Post e-shop.
