Accommodation facility Třeboň

Třeboň is a small town in South Bohemia in Jindřichův Hradec district, about halfway between České Budějovice and Jindřichův Hradec. The town, located in the Třeboňská Pánev lowlands at the elevation of 434 m above sea level, was declared a town conservation area and is the centre of the Třeboňsko Protected Landscape Area and Biosphere Reserve.

The origin of the town dates back to mid-12th century when the area belonged to the extensive Vítkovec family. In 1366 Třeboň and the adjacent lands became the property of the Rožmberk (also known as Rosenberg) family. The boom came in the late 15th and 16th century during the rule of the last Rožmberks, brothers Vilém and Petr Vok of Rožmberk. Their chief manager, Jakub Krčín of Jelčany, focused mainly on pond building and fishing business and helped develop an extensive pond and water management system including the Svět pond right next to Třeboň and the nearby largest Czech pond Rožmberk. The Passau army invasion, the dying out of the Rožmberk family, a series of devastating fires, and a plague epidemic ended the golden era of the town. In 1660, Třeboň became the property of Schwarzenbergs who gave the town its present Baroque shape. A seasonal spa using the healing properties of peat was established in the late 19th century. The present-day Aurora Spa and Berta Spa offer treatment of musculosceletal disorders as well as relaxation and sports facilities. Besides being a major spa town, Třeboň is also a hiking and holiday resort.

Its historical monuments include a system of uniquely preserved town walls with several towers and four gates (Novohradská, Svinenská, Budějovická and Hradecká gates), the main square with many precious town houses with Renaissance and Baroque gables, town hall, plague column of Our Lady and town fountain, Augustinian monastery with St. Giles church, the castle with the adjacent park, the famous brewery established in 1608, the Schwarzenberg tomb. The area is full of natural swimming pools and ponds, such as Hejtman, Staňkovský, Dvořiště, Tušť, Velký Řečický and Svět; the latter is also used as a water sports centre. Furthermore, a number of nature trails pass through the town and its surroundings. These include the Walk Around the World, a 12 km hiking trail around the Svět pond; Around Třeboň, a 39 km biking trail; Rožmberk, a 22 km hiking and biking trail; Červené Blato National Nature Reserve and Trail, a 4 km hiking trail. Třeboň is also a venue of regular traditional cultural events, such as pond fishing events, fishing festival Rybářské slavnosti, international animated film festival Anifilm, Třeboň Theatre Festival, Třeboňská Nocturna classical music festival, Okolo Třeboně music festival.
