A unique exhibition of the Czech Post and Prague Castle
„Prague Castle in the Art of Postage Stamp" is a unique exhibition prepared by the Czech Post's Postal Museum and Prague Castle Administration. The exhibition will be open May 12th to August 1st, 2010 in in the Teresian Wing in the Old Royal Palace at Prague Castle.
Visitors can see over a hundred Czech stamps featuring Prague Castle, its panoramic views, outlined towers, architectural details, gardens, sculptures, paintings, etc., engraved by leading Czech artists and printed in tiny graphic formats. The displayed guide through all stamp printing methods is also expected to attract much attention.
Alfons Mucha, Max Švabinský, Cyril Bouda, Vratislav Hugo Brunner, Karel Dvořák, Karel Svolinský and other stamp artists were also authors of major decorations at Prague Castle (stained-glass windows, mosaics, sculptures, stonework decorations). The exhibits include artefacts from the collections of Prague Castle and St Vitus Metropolitan Chapter, brought from deposits, representation premises, Lány Chateau or St Vitus Cathedral.
The attractive combination of stamp design and the rich funds of two national art collections can provide the visitors with new impulses for their walk through the Prague Castle complex.
The Czech Republic is issuing a stamp with a panoramic view of Prague Castle and a first day cover (FDC) to commemorate the exhibition. A commemorative handstamp will be available at the Prague Castle post office (Praha 012 – Hrad) throughout the exhibition.
