Exhibitions

The Postal Museum held its first short-time exhibition in 1936. It was followed by irregular exhibitions held only on major occasions. A breakthrough series of short-time exhibitions on postal history, stamp and graphic design came no sooner than in the early 1990s. The series, held on the first floor of the so-called Vávra House at Prague 1, featured exhibits from collections of the museum, its partner institutions and Czech as well as foreign private collectors.

Exhibitions on graphic and stamp design included works by many Czech and Slovak graphic artists and engravers, e.g. Josef Liesler, Adolf Born, Bedřich Housa, Václav Fajt, Martin Srb, Jiří Bouda, Oldřich Kulhánek, Karel Franta, Josef Saska, Rudolf Cigánik, František Horniak, Martin Činovský.

Exhibitions on postal history, e.g. Traveller's guides and maps in the Postal Museum's collections, Field post offices of Czechoslovak foreign troops during the Second World War, Mail service in the ghetto Terezín, Post in the 19th century photographs, Post in the Rudolfinian era, also attracted large amounts of visitors.

Exhibitions on foreign stamp design, held in cooperation with partner postal museums in Slovakia, France and Finland, were similarly attractive.
