Sport stamps are among the favourites
9. 9. 2010
Czech sport stamps - as well as other sport philatelic highlights - have long belonged to the top favourites among the general public. Which fan would not be keen to see the 2010 ice hockey champions, speed skater Sáblíková, skier Neumannová or ski jumper Valenta - at least on a stamp?
This year's sport stamps may feel slightly overshadowed by their Čtyřlístek colleagues, nevertheless their stock has been gradually disappearing. The stamp commemorating the 2010 Basketball Championship for Women is a latest example of this. The September 1st, 2010 issue sells like hot cakes without waiting for the actual matches to be played between September 23rd and October 3rd, 2010. Its first day covers (FDCs*) have already been sold out. One of the reasons may be that this is the first basketball championship for women held in this country after 43 years, which means that there was no stamp featuring such event since 1967.
Czech sport stamps 2010:
- XXI Winter Olympic Games Vancouver 2010
- Winter Paralympic Games Vancouver 2010
- XXI Winter Olympic Games Vancouver 2010 - Gold Medals
- The 2010 Ice Hockey Championship in Germany - Gold Medals
- Basketball Championship for Women - Czech Republic 2010
First day covers (FDC) accompanying each sport stamp have been helplessly sold out, except for the FDC for the 2010 Ice Hockey Championship in Germany - Gold Medals stamp which has still been in stock. But as a very popular and original gift they have also attracted a stable amount of fans.
One of the highlights of next year's issues could be the 2011 Men's European Volleyball Championship stamp. The matches will be played in the Czech Republic and in Austria. May the stamp bring good luck to our team!
